1. Group of Practices at CEAQ High School
After
just over a year, the project is becoming better known at the High
School, attracting more young people to the proposed
socio-environmental practices and - more recently - also the first but
important teachers.
School
composting
In
September, the barrier of the first ton of organic waste from the CEAQ
kitchen diverted to the mini composting plant since June 2022 was
overcome.
Now we are going to start a medicinal plant garden.
2* Writing Festival
After the success of the 1st Writing Festival, held in 2022, Instituto Evolua, Mauá decided on a new format in 2023, when a group of young people developed a research project to understand students' willingness to participate in socio-environmental projects.
A team of four young people interviewed 83 colleagues.
Ranking at CEAQ
Having
distributed the awards for the first half of 2023 - which evaluated the
participation of 27 young people in GP-CEAQ practices, rewarding the
six most active -, the second edition of this project is being prepared. Like everything else, the activity will be improved in this new edition.
Internships in socio-environmental development
After a year, this project has been a partial success, ensuring that
activities are not interrupted, but - on the other hand - it can be
improved to integrate more young people in addition to those already
involved and increase productivity and learning opportunities.
2. On
Urban Agriculture
IEM volunteers introduce composting in 10 municipal schools We
continue our efforts to introduce the practice of composting to the
thousands of young students in the Resende municipal education network.
Due
to budgetary and systemic limitations, the only support that the
Municipal Department of Education gives us is to open the doors of
schools for the activity.
All
expenses involved in traveling to schools throughout the municipality
are covered by contributions from supporters of Instituto Evolua, Mauá.
Issue 39 of the Urban Agriculture Magazine is especially important
The RUAF network has just published a new edition of RAU whose specific
focus is "the multiple benefits of urban agriculture", reinforcing the
urgency of promoting it.
The translation of the Editorial anticipates
the importance that the topic is gaining in the world, and is worth
reading while the rest of the edition is being translated into
Portuguese.
3. Extra: local development projects
IEM vice-president and secretary participate in the What Works Conference
From
September 20th to 22nd, Márcia Patrocínio and Joaquim Moura
participated in the meeting on sustainable local development held in
Antigua, Guatemala, where they presented their activities in Visconde
de Mauá and region to volunteers and leaders from the NGO Partners of
the Americas working in the three Americas. Their
talks focused on the importance of youth development, networking and
the promotion of culture and agriculture to help youth face their huge
challenges.

Objective
To form an international community of
practice bringing
together people and institutions interested in
remotely participating in a project prioritizing youth development and the
sustainability of a community between the cities of Rio and Săo Paulo.
The
methodology developed in a network with our partners can be replicated
in any country and city where there are high schools and young people
willing to build a better future right now. |
Justification
The urgent search for solutions to face the challenges
of the 21st century and beyond and the possibilities of interactivity
brought by the internet offer the possibility of mutually enriching our
experiences and the development of best practices.
Brazil
faces social and environmental problems that are
becoming global, and participating in a project in such a challenging
context can accelerate the development of the most effective
practices. |
Our
commitment
We will keep our international network dynamically exchanging information and suggestions,
systematically reporting on
the development of initiatives, their obstacles and successes, and
keeping
available the documents, projects, photos etc. produced. |
